AALPS North - Free Autism Seminar Day

 AALPS North is a specialist transitions service for people aged 16+ with autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, learning disabilities and complex needs.

On Wednesday 16th May AALPS North are hosting a free seminar day focusing on the complexities of transitions and behaviour.

Registration will begin at 09:30am and the seminars will start promptly at 10am, lunch will be provided during which attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

"Challenging Behaviour - an introduction to holistic understanding and positive approaches" -

Paul Dickinson, Consultant Specialist Clinical Psychologist, Options Group.
 

Paul will discuss how supporting people on the autistic spectrum with behavioural challenges requires an understanding of the individual and how they experience the world. Whilst learning about individual behaviour patterns we must be aware that what we see and experience may have built up over long periods, and what maintains the behaviour now may be very different from the original triggers.

"Transitions from my point of view

"- Tom Schewitz, Specialist speaker for Options Group.
 

As a young person on the autistic spectrum Tom will discuss what he believes to be key about managing transitions, the challenges and how he overcomes them.

 

1:30pm

 

"Supporting transitions- making the right moves"

- Geoff Evans, Head of Quality

Improvement, Options Group.

Geoff will explore the difficulties experienced by individuals with autism in making

transitions of all kinds, including both micro and macro. After discussing the difficulties he will move on to suggest and outline a number of strategies for supporting transitions.
